Installation Installing Paintball 2.0 Installation is extremely simple, just unzip it and go, and if you download any patches/updates in the future, extract them to the same directory. But... some people like to make it a lot more complicated than it needs to be, and thus I've constructed this very detailed installation guide. Windows XP Double click on the zip, and drag the paintball2 folder wherever you want it.

Or, should you choose to use the extraction wizard, make sure you don't create a paintball2* directory.

This will be created automatically.

Other Versions of Windows For other versions of windows that don't contain built-in zip functionality, you will need a program such as WinZip, if you don't already have one. Once you have that installed, double-click on the zip file and click the "Extract" icon.

A paintball2 folder will be created automatically, so don't create one of your own. Simply set the destination as C:\\ or D:\\games or wherever you want the paintball2 folder to go. Also, make sure you have "Use folder names" checked. Installing Updates/Patches Installation of patches is exactly the same as installing a full version. Simply follow the steps above with the update zip, extracting to the exact same directory you did before. If you extracted the previous full version to c:\\games, extract the update to c:\\games. Here are some of the common mistakes:

a) Installing a patch without having a previous full version. You MUST have a complete previous version installed before installing updates.
b) Extracting the update to the paintball2 folder. Don't do this. The paintball2 folder is created automatically. You must extract the update to the directory containing your older paintball2 folder. If paintball2.exe is in c:\\paintball2, extract the patch to c:\\.
c) Extracting the update to a completely different directory. This obviously isn't going to work. Patches are supposed to update the executable and some game data. If you aren't overwriting paintball2.exe, then you're doing it wrong.

If you did extract the update to the wrong directory, it's easy to fix. Simply drag the paintball2 folder it created into the directory containing the older paintball2 folder. When you run paintball2.exe, check the build number in the lower right to make sure the installation was successful.
