Driver Help Video Drivers
General Info
You're probably here because Paintball2 said it could not find hardware accelerated drivers for OpenGL. "But other games run! It's just a problem with Paintball2!" you say. Those games probably use DirectX, not OpenGL. DirectX driver support comes stock with Windows 7. You can test out some other OpenGL-based games to be sure (Warsow, Nexuiz, Alien Arena, Quake 3 Arena, etc.).
Now, how do you fix it? You need to find the appropriate video drivers for your card. Keeping your drivers up to date should not only allow Paintball2 to run, but it will let you play more games and allow games that currently run to run better. First, we need to figure out which video card you have.
Determining Your Card - Windows 7
If you're running Windows 7, but don't know what video card you have, follow these steps:
- Click on the start menu.
- Open "Control Panel"
- Click "Appearance and Personalization"
- Click "Display"
- Click "Change display settings" (on the left menu)
- Click "Advanced settings" (right side)
- Look at what it says for "Adaptor Type" or "Chip Type". This is what you need to find drivers for.
Determining Your Card - Windows XP
If you're running Windows XP, but don't know what video card you have, follow these steps:
- Right-Click on "My Computer"
- Select "Properties"
- Click the "Hardware" tab
- Click "Device Manager"
- Click the [+] next to "Display Adaptors"
- This should list your adaptor type(s).
Locating and Downloading Drivers
The adaptor or chip type should have one of the following words. Click on it to begin locating and downloading the appropriate driver for your video card.
- "NVIDIA" or "GeForce"
- "ATI", "AMD", or "Radeon"
- "Intel"
If your card is not listed here, or a link is incorrect, try searching the web for something like "download <adaptor type> video drivers", and be sure to let us know via the contact page.
