Installing Paintball Digital Paint is a Quake 2 Total Conversion. This basically means that we modified the Quake 2 code, and made an entirely new game for it. We made new guns, maps, sounds, everything! However Paintball II still requires Quake2 in order to play.
If you do not have Quake2.
The first thing you need to do is order Quake2, or grab it at the store. You can call id Software (makers of Quake2) and order it: 1-800-ID-GAMES. It's about 50 bucks. You can also check out id Software's web page for more information. You will probably want a computer that is at least 233 MHz in order to run it ok. A 3D card also helps a lot. You can check out lockandload.com if you want to buy a nice computer designed for gaming.Once you have Quake2, you need to install it. Simply pop the CD in and run the setup program. I recommend you install it to "C:\quake2" (without quotes).
Once you have Quake2, or if you already have it
Once you have it installed, you need to download the 3.20 Final upgrade. The full Quake II v3.20 patch (13.8Mb) will upgrade any previous version of Quake II to v3.20.Run the program and it will install the Quake2 3.20 upgrade for you.
- download from PlanetQuake (worldwide mirrors)
- download from id Software
Installing Paintball 2 from Scratch
If you have never installed Paintball2 before, you will need the full install.
This zip file contains long file names and must be unzipped using Winzip. Unzip the file directly into your Quake2 Directory. It should make a a directory similar to this c:\quake2\pball and off of that should be a maps, pics, sounds, models and other directories.
