Discuss it here. February 4th, 2004Paintball 2.0 Alpha Build 008 ReleasedYup. A new release already. The big addition to this one is OpenAL 3D audio support. To use this, you have to install the latest drivers for your sound card and grab OpenAL. The 3D sound option is in the menu, or you can manually set it with s_a3d followed by a snd_restart. mSparks was kind enough to implement this. You should check out what he’s doing with Action Quake2.
The other thing build008 includes is gamma adjusted lightmaps. This makes the lighting appropriate for monitors using the sRGB standard gamma of 2.2. Make sure to configure you video gamma settings in the menu for best results. Here are a couple screenshots showing the difference. The first shows the map ub_rooftop with the old lighting system (gl_modulate cvar adjusts the lightmap intensity). The second shows the same map with the new lighting system (gl_lightmapgamma cvar adjusts the gamma curve on the lightmap).
There are also some miscellaneous bug fixes and additions such as a mouse invert option in the menu, advanced joystick settings and some texture options. As always, the updates are in the files section.
January 24th, 2004Linux v1.771 Server UpdateIt turns out that there was a little bug with the last Paintball 2 server release that could be exploited and crash the server. This is a small update to fix it. Grab it in the files section if you’re running a Linux server.
Oh, and I forgot to mention this in the last update, but there’s a new option in v1.77+ servers to set the minimum client build a player must have to connect: sv_minclientbuild. This only works for build 7 or higher clients. If you only want people using the new version to be able to connect, set it to 7. January 20th, 2004Paintball 2 Server v1.77 for LinuxThe 1.77 server update is already included with the windows Paintball 2.0 alpha build007. This is just for people running Linux servers. Update includes:
- Bot bugfixes (though the bots aren’t really ready for public use yet) - Jail bugfixes (you can shoot people that are the same color now; observers don’t get stuck in jail) - po/pr/pb/pp/py serverinfo cvars fixed. (These display who’s on what team from server browsers) - “stats” shows the accuracy of each weapon you use. This will eventually be added to the menu interface for the client. - Message of the day now displays in the center of the screen when players connect. - Players with passwords set aren’t kicked for bad passwords when the server has no password set. - HUD updates properly when using the chasecam. - Formatted names don’t screw up the rest of the text.
Grab it on the files page if you’re planning on setting up a Linux server. This update still requires the Linux Quake2 executable.
