March 27th, 2002Minor Engine TweaksEvery once in a while I think of some nice little tweaks to throw in to make Quake2 more Paintball II oriented and less Quake2 oriented. The config menu now has the paintball binds in it, and things like cl_noskins make the client use the team-colored skins instead of the grunt (aka funky yellow purple dude) skin. New MapWell, I'm working on a new map. I had forgotten how time consuming it is to make these things :) This one should be pretty cool. It'll be designed to support 4 teams and all game modes. It's quite tall (about 120 feet) and it's possible to reach the top by hopping from ledge to ledge in certain areas (see screenshot). It's also possible to escape the jail, but far from easy. :) March 10th, 2002Ingame server browser?For your gaming pleasure, an INGAME server browser is in the works. For the time being, all it does is download the server.txt from http://www.captured.com/digitalpaint/server.txt and toss it into the quake2 address book. Of course the address book has a lot of room for improvement now, doesn't it.
There jit. Someone other than you posted news. Happy? ;-) March 3rd, 2002BBoard UpdateWell, I updated the bboard today in hopes that it would fix the issue with Internet Explorer 6. It didn't. Apparently since the bboard is in a frame, IE won't accept cookies from it unless you edit your security settings (dumb thing). There are instructions on how to do this in the forum on the bboard page. Or you can just use a different browser. :) New ServersLots of new servers have been going up lately, so if you've had trouble finding a good server, go check out the list now! Also, if you were using IE6 and the server plugin didn't work, check out the new link to download the plugin on the server page.

New Player ModelFor those of you who missed the POTD, we have a new player model, made by Shine. February 27th, 2002Progress UpdateHere's a mild update to give everyone an idea of what's going on. I've completed like 99% of the popular textures, but there are still a few rarely-used ones to go. I think I included waaaaay too many textures in the original release. Some of them are even repeats. Oh well.
We're probably not going to support software mode anymore, at least with the initial 2.0 release. If you can't go out and pay 10 bucks for a 3D card, well, go complain on the bboard, and maybe we'll change our mind. :)
There are a ton of other groups working on cheat protection stuff, so I'll probably be working off of their stuff since they can do a much better job than we have time to do. If you have any suggestions for anti-cheat packages that look promising, post some ideas on the bboard.
