June 27th, 1999Version 1.5 ReleasedOkay, the client is basically skins and a few other knickknacks, and the rest of the changes are in code.One of the most MAJOR changes, which I just added is "tripping".  Because of the major abuse of the strafe jumping bug in quake2 to travel at extremely high rates of speed (as much as 2.5 times normal speeds), I have made it so that if you hit ground while going more than 1.5 times the max running speed, you "trip".  This is a server togglable feature so if people hate it, server admins can turn it off.  SKINS!  Skins are added.  On servers running the new code, just switch to one of the skins that've been installed and it'll automatically check to see if the server has it (so people can download it) and it'll put the correct color skin on ya. We do NOT have a linux or solaris compile yet.  (Where'd ja go smokeya! We need to use you again. :P)Grab the stuff here ... Server ops, you need the v4.5 to v5.0 upgrade, as it has the skins in it.

Remember, multi-skin support isnt even released yet.  I think i'll make a COMPREHENSIVE FAQ on making skins for the release, which will delay it a few days but will cause me a HELL of a lot less greif.

On this subject, I will answer NO questions.  Form a "skin development guild" for all I care.  I'm not an answerbot.

I'm ONLY doing this because approx every 15 min on IRC another person asks me how to do skins.  I helped a few people, but this is getting insane and I don't have the time.  Once again, call me an ass, but I just can't handle it all. =)

June 14th, 1999PS/2 Mouse tweakingHate how you move your mouse in quake2 and it JERKS to the next position?  Well... lets make your PS/2 mouse sample faster!
Instead of 40Hz, lets go for 200!.

Get the latest logitech drivers

Run regedit.exe and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Logitech\ MouseWare\CurrentVersion\Technical There you will find a string called "PS2ReportRate". Change its value to change your sampling rate. (I personally like 200.) I think you have to reboot for the changes to take effect.

I think this only works with PS\2 mics.

Preemptive strike:

Since I hate mass emailing on the same topic... A PS/2 mouse is the one with the ROUND connector to the case. NOT RECTANGULAR.  Figger it out.
Skin SubmissionOkay, there seemed to be a lot of confusion on this, so lets clear it up.

•To view a skin someone is wearing, you need a copy.
•In DP, if the SERVER doesnt have the skin, it wont let you use it.
•To make it so everyone has your skin, submit it to me.

Rules for skin submission:

• I will only release QUALITY skins with the release. If your skin submitted sucks, I wont release it.
• I will NOT edit the .pcx in any way, so it is the SUBMITTERS RESPONSIBILITY to make sure that it loaded using the digital paint palette (which can be obtained from any of the .pcx files in the pball\pics\ directory under quake2)
• Please make the skins use the color BLUE to make sure I can convert to PURPLE, YELLOW, and RED with no glitches.  There is something weird about the PCX format that i'm not too clear on yet, and only BLUE works consistantly.
• YOU MUST INCLUDE THE ICON (skin_i.pcx) FILE, WITH PROPER COLORATION FOR YOUR SKIN TO BE ACCEPTED.
• If the skin doesnt work from what i've received, I'll delete it, and email you a reply telling you it didnt work.
Clan Skins -
• I will make a SEPARATE PACK for clan skins, as skins aint small.
• Max of two clan skins per clan please (not per clanmember)
• Same format rules apply as above.
• No new models please.  Only use "MALE" "FEMALE" "MARINE" "BLIZ" and "ALITA". The later 3 will be released asap.

Server support

• Multi skins will disable themselves if the server has "allow_download_skins" or "allow_download" disabled.  This is because if the server has a skin on it that someone is using, and you cant download it, the player will be wearing the "crap" skin.  This will ensure everyone can see everyone in their proper skin.

• Servers MUST HAVE THE SKINS for the client to use it.  It is the system admin's responsibility to keep this up to date, and to keep cheater skins out.

• ANY NEW SKIN WILL WORK on the servers, so long as there are all 4 colors, determined by the last letter representing "r" "b" "y" "p", and the "r_i" "b_i" "y_i" "p_i" ICON files representing them.  I will release the skin colorizer as soon as it is working for all colors -> all other colors.

IF MULTI-SKIN SUPPORT BREEDS MORONIC BEHAVIOR, SKINS WILL BE LIMITED TO "OFFICIAL" SKIN PACKS.  (no calling me an asshole for doing it, you've been warned)
