More sponsors for the event will be added soon. We are aiming for 50 people at the Lan party, so be sure to head on over to the DPcon webpage today! December 10th, 1998G-Field by Darkphyre!Darkphyre, aka Tempest has released his 3rd party map G-Field. This map which was originally constructed in Quake 1 paintball was converted to Digital Paint by fellow map maker Fryth. You can see a picture of this great new map above. (Note: the gaussian blur on the picture is a pitiful attempt for me to trick you into thinking I have GL, hehe) You say you want to play this map? Go right ahead! The Smurfbot server is now running this map along with several other 3rd party maps and you can download them all here! Once again thankyou to Fembot for providing such a great service to 3rd party mappers, and to Darkphyre and Fryth for churning out another classic. December 8th, 1998NedStatHey all, we have signed up for a counter/hitstat keeper from NedStat USA. Basically all it does is track the most popular hit times, and days. I think it'll be interesting to see how much the little blurbs on captured.com increase hits, and what goes on at releases, dont you? =) The counter thing is that little graph button on the navbar.View the stats HERE. New Screen ShotsYeah, yeah... those screen shots are ages old... like from before pb2 was released, so I've started putting some new ones up! I just have brainstorm and midnight pics up now, but I'll get some more when I have time. If ya wanna see the new hud, brainstorm, and other stuff that will be included in Beta5, go check 'em out! December 6th, 1998Newbie Strategy GuideZlroboda has put together a stratigy guide to help newbies out. It has some pictures, info, and tips which will definately help out people just entering the paintball world :) Check it out here. December 5th, 1998Siege mode!!!!!The code for it has been started... The map is almost totally done... Its the highest level of team work... Its.... SIEGE MODE!
So what is this new gameplay style??
Attacker, Your objective: Storm the base, eliminate all resistance, and obtain the enemies flag, gaining points based on how many of your comerades still stand. You have 2 minutes in which to conquor the enemy, do not fail or your enemy will gain greatly. Watch out, if you get hit, your enemy will gain points and you wont have a second chance.
Defender, Your objective: Eliminate the threat to your base and your flags, taking out as many attackers as you can to gain points. Watch your flags carefuly, for all the enemy must do is get your flag and leave the base*. If you manage to hold them off for the whole 2 minutes, you will gain almost as many points as if you manage to eliminate the attacking teams totally. Do NOT attempt to charge the attackers, as if you leave your base, you will be removed from the competition. As with the attackers, if you are hit, you will not return.
The game requires 3 teams... One team will defend the fortified hill/base at any time, while the other two attack. Positions cycle every round. The team with the highest score at the end, wins.
For anyone who wishes to make a 3rd party map for seige mode in time for the release of the server dll, the concept is simple. Make a base and an area for attackers to spawn. Make the defenders spawnpoints be teamnumber 1, and attackers teamnumber 2 and 3. Multiple flags work the same way as in normal paintball, but leave the teamnumber 0 or blank. To define the edge of the base of which the defenders cant cross and attackers try to bring the flag to, make a brush ent of type "base" with no teamnumber surround the base, as no defender can get out. This will be sufficient to work properly with the release, when it comes out.
* It has not been decided if the flag must only be touched, or taken out of the base in order to score and end the round. Send in your thoughts to the DP crew. (email link at the top of the page)
Cheaters Beware1) Banning will be implimented in beta5 of DP.
2) SmokeGrenade cheaters will be detected in beta5 of DP.
3) The server will have a choice of how to deal with cheaters in beta5 of DP.
4) No warnings will be given.
5) Updated DLLs with just the cheat checking might be sent out to server operators before the release of beta 5.
6) Don't be stupid. Don't cheat.
7) No, im not going to tell you how to do the cheat... if you do it you know what im talking about.
Paint grenades! As you saw by the picture of the day for yesterday, the fugly paint grenades you've been using all along will now look like REAL PAINT GRENADES. You might not have known it, but the old grenades were just the normal quake2 handgrenades, which looked black and red because of the digitalpaint palette. We should be getting the smoke grenade done soon also, so you will be able to see better. JAILEDThe classic jails.... Introduced in quake1 paintball by yours truly, they have once again been implimented. Jitspoes recreation of Splatterhouse, and also Brainstorm will contain the ever loved "wolf3d" jails. You can choose to go to the jail when you die by typing "JAIL" in the console, when if the map has one, you will be placed in a deathmatch style arena for the duration of your elimination. And best of all, it doesnt FORCE you to go to jail. Each person gets to choose for themselves.
