January 14th, 1999Beta 5.1 Server Side Only Release! With any release their is bound to be some bugs. Beta 5 was no exception. However the bugs are merely server code problems that can be easily fixed with a Server side only release. This means that only people running servers need download this release. And the rest of you don't need to download anything else. (I know you have been downloading ALOT in the past few days). This new release fixes the following bugs found in the beta 5 dll.
Server now informs you if you are rejected for a bad password.
You may now use the inven menu (tab) to switch teams or go into observer mode.
Server admins can now use CVAR_SET on "elim" to vary the elimination length without rcon.
You cannot fire when the round over anymore. (Fixes scoring issues)
Friendly Fire bug in Deathmatch mode fixed.
You can download the Server Side only release for Windows here. The Solaris and Linux ports will be done by Smokeya shortly and will be available for dl asap. Thank you for helping us beta test Digital Paint. If you find anymore bugs please let us know.
DPcon AftermathMurdock, AKA Grouchy[Smurf] has put together his view of DPcon. It includes a story of the events he experienced as well as links to pictures, and scores from the DPcon tournaments. Click here to see Murdock's "DPCon: A Smurf's view". January 13th, 1999Slow as ballsWell, a lot of people on the server have been complaining about lag. And of course with the release of beta 5 just the other day, its been blamed on beta5. Welp, i just hopped on a beta4.5 server and the lags just as bad.
It seems that there is something going on with the `net screwing up TCP/IP connections. I dont know who all it affects, but it does seem to be noticed by many people, in quake][, irc, and http(the web) connections alike.
On the lighter note, i just checked and 5 of the servers are at max clients, and there are 65 people total playing this second. The highest q1 pball ever got to was 45 people at once. I'd like to give a shout to all those who made this success possible. January 12th, 1999NedStats - Top Quake SiteCool, we're the top site this week as far as hits go! Check it out! W00P!
